Child Ministry

About Our Program

Child Faith Formation of pre-school and school-age children in grades K3-5 is offered for religious education of children to enhance what they learn at home. We seek to help children develop their faith life while learning a basic understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Sacramental Preparation

First Sacraments Preparation readies children to receive the sacraments of reconciliation and Communion for the first time, usually around the age of 7 or in second grade. Catholic school and public school children celebrate the sacraments together. Children receive first reconciliation around January and first Communion in the Spring. All children who want to prepare for First Sacraments must have completed at least one full year of religious education either in a Catholic school setting or in Faith Formation and be currently enrolled in order to begin Sacramental preparation. Usually, this means full participation in first grade Faith Formation and concurrent enrollment in second grade Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation.

Older students who have been baptized but have not had any prior religious education are encouraged to contact the Child Ministry Coordinator to enroll for the first time and to discuss options for sacramental preparation. A child age 8 or older who has not been baptized generally prepares for the Sacraments through the Rites of Initiation adapted for children. Parents should contact the Adult and Family Coordinator for more information.
