The Archdiocese of Milwaukee issued updates to the Catholic Comeback Matrix on February 25, 2021. This matrix was established last year as the guide for Catholic churches to safely reopen. Below are the newest changes. The complete matrix is available on archmil.org under the Catholic Comeback tab.
Wearing of Face Coverings Best practice - and the expectation - is to wear a face covering, not only for personal protection but to be respectful of others. Priests, deacons, and extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion should wear face coverings when distributing Communion.
Choir/Singing One cantor is allowed, but no singing choirs, and communal singing should be minimized. Bell choirs are allowed with socialdistancing and no shared bells. Music Musicians should wear face coverings and social distance. No wind or brass instruments
Communal Penance Services Yes, with social distancing protocols and strict adherence to cleaning and sanitizing protocols. No general absolution.
Distribution of Holy Water Yes, in individual containers or automatic dispensers. Use of Holy Water in Fonts No
Funeral luncheons/receptions or wedding rehearsal receptions, etc. No
Worship Aids Single use worship aids are allowed. Provide a disposal bin at each exit for collection after each Mass or prayer service, or instruct worshippers to take worship aid home with them for disposal.
Use of parish and school buildings for outside groups No rental or usage by an outside organization, outside of an existing lease. Usage limited to parish/school sponsored groups under the Catholic umbrella. Short-term rental/use allowed, if space is otherwise unoccupied or not in use (for example, summer rental)
May Crowning Yes, with attendance limited by your ability to effectively maintain social distancing in relation to your church capacity. Strict adherence and vigilance with cleaning and sanitizing protocol.
Parish Festival At this time no events before July 1. After July 1, tentatively plan, but do not sign any contracts or make any public announcements about the Event being held. We know how important these are and we are monitoring this situation closely and will make up-to-date changes as necessary.
Parish Social Gatherings, such as Fun Runs/Walks, picnics, Parish picnics, etc. At this time no events before July 1. Parish/School Events with Food, such as bake sales, donut Sundays, etc. No

Parish/School Fish Fry, Chicken Dinners, etc. Yes, using extra cleaning and safety precautions. Limited number of volunteers. Workers wearing gloves and face coverings. Outdoor drive-through or curbside pick-up only. No inside pick up.
